Plot[]
[]
Nikita sits in a dive bar while a guy insistently hits on her. She's unbothered by the attention. Another man watches their interactions. "I like drinking alone," she tells her would be suitor. "C’mon. You’ll see me in a whole new light," the man cajoles. "I said no," Nikita tells him. The man notices the other man observing them and takes issue with it. "How much do you weigh?" he's asked and the other man is confused but he answers. "Wow. I didn’t realize they could pile that much crap on a barstool," he responds. Nikita stiffles a laugh. Angry, the man rises and approaches the other man. Nikita grabs a bottle from the bar and smash it over the angry man.
Nikita and the second man step out of the bar together. "Really glad you did something like that," he tells her. "And, if I hadn’t?" Nikita asks. "Then, I would be where he is, and he’d be back at the bar hitting on you, which is something I figured you didn’t want," he tells her. Nikita offers to buy him a drink. "I don’t much feel like being around when he wakes up," he admits. "I’ve got a place a few blocks from here. We could go there for a drink," she offers and begins to lead the way. He asks Nikita if she's new to the area and she tells him that she's not. "That’s weird. I thought I knew this side of town pretty well," he tells her. "Well, life’s just full of surprises, isn’t it?" Nikita answers. A Section van pulls up, blocking their path. The man from earlier, steps out. He's an operative. "Get in the van, Mr. Kruger," he tells Nikita's companion.
Act 1[]
Nikita is standing outside Systems when Michael approaches her. "I just saw the mission debrief," she tells him. "Krueger was framed for murder." Michael responds easily. "He'll be more focused knowing escape is pointless." Nikita points out that the frame was real and the operative Dobbs is dead. Michael tells her that he was in Abeyance. "I thought Operations said this was going to be a temporary recruitment," she reminds him. "Further analysis indicated that we might need Krueger in the future," he replies. "Oh, so we just took him off the street...an innocent man. Do we do this type of thing often, Michael?" Nikita is distressed by the possibility. "No, not often," he answers and then walks away. Nikita remains alone and slowly thinks back to the incident that was the catalyst for her arrest, murder conviction and recruitment to Section One. With tears in her eyes, she's beginning to consider the possibility that she was purposely framed for murder much like Krueger.
Nikita enters Krueger's room with two shot glasses and a bottle of whiskey. He morosely wants to know what she wants. "I still owe you a drink," she tells him. "You owe me a lot more than a drink," he tells her. "Is that how this is gonna be?" Bitter, Krueger suggests that he should break Nikita's neck for what she did to him. Nikita begins to pour and tells him that he won't do that. "Oh, because you're some kinda martial arts chick like every other freak in this place." Krueger takes a swing at Nikita but she easily avoids him. He tries again and this time Nikita backs hands in the face twice and then in the stomach. He falls over and Nikita slaps him the ass. "Bad boy," she chastises. "That was worth it," Kreuger snarks back and Nikita smiles in amusement.
Act 2[]
Nikita enters the bar and spots her target. She observes him for a moment on he departs and heads towards a set of stairs. He's going to the bathroom. Nikita follows and waits outside. Upon his exit, she pushes him against the wall and starts to question. Nikita wants him to look at her face. "Hey, kid. You wanna earn five bucks," she repeats the words he told her the night she was mistakenly arrested for murder. The man claims to not know what she's talking about. She mentions Section One and he still claims ignorance. Nikita nonchalantly notes that she's said too much and she'll just have to kill him. The man instantly stops playing ignorant.
Nikita enters Michael's office after being summoned. He tells her that he saw Krueger's debrief. "His answers seemed memorized, not experienced." Michael asks to see the tapes of Krueger's live SIM. Nikita tells him that she didn't make any because she didn't think it was necessary. "If that was a mistake, then I apologize." He knows her too well to know that that's the real reason. "Stop playing games, Nikita. What's really going on?"
