Robert Cochran was a writer on La Femme Nikita during all five seasons of the series. He is credited with writing 14 episodes of the series, the second most of any other writer. He also served as executive consultant from seasons one through three and on season five.

He acted as showrunner during the show's fifth and abbreviated final season.

Cochran was originally approached to act as show runner for the series during its early development. However, he was unable to due to his commitment to the first season of the then NBC military series J.A.G. It was at his recommendation that Joel Surnow was approached. After the series was officially picked, he became available and came on staff.

He, alongside executive consultant Joel Surnow, were the primary creative forces of the series. The two worked together and co-created their follow up series, '24'. As part of the producing team of that series, he won a 2006 Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series.

Before he became a writer, Cochran was an attorney and a management consultant. He published his first novel, a historical young adult story, "The Sword and the Dagger" in 2019.
